On November 2, 1913 the Nomad Motorcycle Club sponsored an economy test. John F. Greenawalt rode to victory and set a world record in the process. His Harley-Davidson twin (similar to the one shown here) went 19 miles on 23 ounces of gasoline – a rate of 105 miles per gallon. John Swanson held the previous record in 1912 with a rate of 62.2 miles per gallon.
