Time to lube my clutch cable. I have seen many recommendations as to type of lubricant....Liquid, Aerosol, Break Free CLP, WD-40, Teflon, Grease, etc. Appreciate your input.
Thanks.
Newer bikes have teflon coated inner cables that don't require lube. But I still like to lube mine. I poke the cable thru a corner of a sandwich bag and wrap it tight with a cut rubber band. Then I put enough oil to cover the cable end and leave it sit overnight. I use trans oil, just because it makes me feel like it sticks to the cable longer, and I have all night to wait anyhow.
For my 04 softail I did similar to what breeze does only I was using hydraulic oil. I would also pull down that rubber accordion thing that covers the adjuster and smear grease around it, cause it seams like moister always gets in there.
Thanks all. Guess I overlooked the sticky. Looks interesting. I was looking for the type of lubricant to use....didn't think of the method of application. I sell industrial chemicals, which include lubricants, so I have lots of resources.
Bike Aid, its graphite in a light machine oil with a 3" needle nozzle. I just hold the cable end in a rag and take my time. Slide the cable back and forth after a few seconds and a few more drops.
I tried the Cable Lube aerosol, and it's a little messy, (even with the clamp block the sell) so it's used to lube the pivot pins, and inside of throttle grip. I know MoCo. has always said no on the grip, but I have 96.5k with stock grips with no issues.
Again it's all personal preferences.
