OK, so I'm beginning to prepare my bike for winter storage, and I read that the battery should be moved in where it's warm. Everything I've read states that the seat should be removed by unscrewing or unbolting the seat from the back, and then lift the seat up.
Well, I looked, and did not see a screw or bolt on, near, or by the seat, front or back.
Sorry, I don't know how am 81 sporty seat attaches. But, I will say that my battery stays in the bike all winter, connected to a tender. Not sure if inside is better, but I get good battery life my way if you don't want to bother.
The screw in the back I believe is the difference in 2003and under versus 2004 and up. When I was looking at seats the ones that didn't fit my 13 were the 2003 and under which didn't have a bracket behind for the screw.
Checked out stock seats for your bike on eBay and it looks like it bolts on in the back but inside the fender up into the seat. Have a look under the rear fender.
There also some seats that show a rear tab that allows the seat to bolt to the fender from the top.
