back in the day i bought a new '86 V-Max, set it up for sport touring with a small shield, backrest/rack for the ex, forward pegs, put alot of miles on that bike.

did alot of riding back in michigan, & it seems like every single time i was on it, i could not stay outta the throttle, the pull was soooo addictive on that bike, it was a V-4 with 4 carbs which rode normally like any other bike under 6000rpm, but over 6k, when those butterfly valves opened up between those carbs & each cylinder was getting fuel from all 4 carbs at once,,,,,, oh ya,,, that pull ( & subsequent speed ) was very addictive

i knew i had to sell that bike if i wanted to see the other side of 30, it wasn't the bike that scared me, it was the damn dogs & deer. had more than a few very close encounters with both at well over 120mph +

have since been on a few busa's ( very fun ride, pulls hard also, but nothing like the sensation of the early V-Max ) have also been on the new V-Max,,,, looks nice,, but they've totally neutered that great machine imo
