Sealing up the pump
I want to seal off the chain and primary outlets at the pump. Anyone know what size plugs I need? The primary oiler outlet looks like 1/8". Don't know if the chain oiler is the same.

The primary oiler outlet on the pump appears to be 8mm, but it also seems to be tapered. Anyone know if these kind of plugs are available? I can't find any name on the pump, so I don't know who made it.

If it's all stock then HD made the pump and those plugs are not metric they're standard pipe plugs , get 'em at any hardware store . Take the fitting with you to match it up at the store . Put a cork in the hole so you don't make another puddle !

Sorry, I should have explained that it is not stock. It's a chromed-out aftermarket pump. The threads are 8mm, but they are tapered. I took the fitting to the hardware store and an 8mm fine thread nut fits perfectly, but only goes halfway on. You can see the taper in the fitting. If I knew who made the pump, I would contact them.

I would try a 5/16 - 24 pipe plug . I haven't heard of any aftermarket metric oil pumps for shovels !

I tried a 5/16 nut on the fitting and it was a no-go. And I needed to use a 10mm wrench to remove the fitting, 3/8 was too small, and 7/16 was too big.

That's got me stumped ! ... ! But if the metric plug fits why not use it ? Put a bit of pipe tape on it and if it doesn't leak then good to go . Actually , if you do what Dave says , "turn the screw off " it shouldn't leak .

I have the secondary chain oiler adjuster screw turned all the way in and oil is still coming out. I'm also talking about the primary chain oiler fitting, which doesn't have an adjuster screw. And I can't find any metric 8mm bolt or screw that will bo in a tapered hole.

Vrods are metric ... can't remember the size of the coolant plugs on it though . Any Yamaha dealers in your area or even boat dealerships ? Got a Fastenal store near you ? Any one of those should be able to supply you with that 8mm plug . Even a foreign car parts supply store .

Well just as a followup. 1/8" was too big; 1/16th was too small.
So I tapped the fitting from the bottom to 8/32 and put in a set screw with some red loctite. I then cut the barb off flush and all is good.
