Transmission Year ID Help

Need some help with identifying the year of this 4 speed transmission I have on this '76 FX rolling basket I'm working on. Any ideas on how to determine the year of an old 4 speed ratchet top?

Numbers under the kicker side, on the case.

Dave thanks for the info but just a bit more needed. The last 2 number on the case under the kicker are the year? For example 65 would be 1965 and 75 would be 1975? I have a 5 digit number with a digit stamped under it making it really a 6 digit number I guess and then a 2 digit number following to the right in line with the 5 digit number.

Thanks again.

Kind of......those numbers, as far as I know, are casting numbers. Those numbers will tell you that the trans was used from specific dates, like 1965-1977 1/2, depending on what they are.

If it's a ratchet top, then it's a 1978 at the oldest, i believe.

Thanks for the help! I guess my best bet is to replace worn parts with matching new parts and not worry about the year of the trans.
