Any experience with Ultima Shovelhead engines?

Hi,

Does anyone have any experience with the Ultima Shovelhead engine?

Their Evo motors are supposed to be VERY nice.....and wouldn't mind looking at their shovels for my next build.

S&S is just too pricy! For that money, I might as well go with an Accurate shovel ( or maybe a pan???).

Any experience with Ultima?

What are Ultima's prices?

I know of one place right now offering brand new HD Evo crate motors for $2695, and HD also has a rebuild offer for that much, only you have to allow them to remove and install to get the 1 year warranty, with a 2 week turn around time....

I've not heard anything bad about Ultima, however, I have no firsthand knowledge either.......

I would make sure they are able to use any parts or do you have to use their parts, I have heard there motors are decent, but they are probably not make in the U.S., You should be able to have your Evo rebuilt pretty cheap, I would not take a Harley motor out to put an Ultima motor in. That is my opinion.

I was srriously looking at replacing my EVO with an Ultima 113 this year. $3499 from Jireh. Didn't look at pricing for a Shovel, but don't forget the exhaust is different from the EVO and will need to be replaced.

i would be careful of jireh, tried for years to get a good answer from midwest m/c about them.they say their 2 different co.,i say BS.i think its a part of midwest, selling midwest seconds (and been told that by an employee of midwest).jireh sells parts for less than my midwest dealer prices.where ever you get it from, get it unassembled & assemble yourself,we`ve had probs with ultima crate motors

Prodrag1320, you are correct, when I had my shop, people would get pissed because I would tell them a price on belt drives from Midwest and they would come back with a price from Jireh that was cheaper than my dealer cost and get free shipping. I do not know if this is true but I heard Jireh was owned by the son of the owner of Midwest, who knows, but you really gotta watch what you buy from them. If I was going with a motor that was not a Harley it would be a S&S hands down. Well, that's my 2 cents if anyone cares. They have to be the same company though.

the other prob buying stuff from these "mail order" places is that if you have a prob, you own it!!pay alittle more, buy it from a reputable shop that will back it up(i`ve got a ultima 127" in my bagger,i like the motor, makes great power(139 at the wheel),but like the saying goes"i know the mechanic"(me),but i agree,S&S is the best, hands down

welcome fellow traveler I would try to do it yourself if you look hard you can get a good old shovel for about 1500 bucks, and then you would have stock motor to do what you want, and as long as you dont try to make a drag motor out of it you can make it reliable and a good runner
