1984 FL Banana Brake Caliper

My front brake is extremely soft. Brake handle goes almost to the end. I rebuilt the reservoir, no luck. I am going to get new brake lines and make sure the pads are ok. I have been looking for a new caliper, but do not know what will fit on the bike. Any suggestions? Would like something moderately priced and not quite as large as the banana.

Thanks. I'll do that right now. I've been to the J&P catalog. Problem I have is placing the description and picture with what I have. Trying to get some hands on knowledge of fitment and what is actually better and may work so I don't waste time and money or have to send it back. Thanks.

Kinda sounds Like a pocket of air aint getting bled out. J and P would be your best start for modding, Email em or call on a land line they would be happy to help.

Those old banana calipers can be rebuilt and all new fluid put in the system. With that, the brake will feel like new again. Old fluid can make a brake feel like it's air filled.

GMA also makes some nice replacements as well, should you want to go the "replacement" route.

Check and make sure the piston is moving all the way back towards the hand lever,Called free travel,in other words be sure the rod and the piston are making contact or very close to it when the brake is not applied.

I'll do that when/if I go with new parts. I have had good luck with J&P.

I've got the caliper off and apart. I'll pop the pistons out and clean them up. Also changing the lines. I have to put in a "T" to add a break line switch anyway, so changing the line. Hopefully this will work. Thanks for the input.
