points vs. electronic ign?
I own A 1977 Fxe . In the process of rebuilding top end. I had A "twintec" Elec. Ign. Laying around from the last owner he took It Off Due To Coil Kept Burning Up. I Ran It All Last Year W/ Points w/o Any Issues. I Bored The Cylinders 60 Out. I Am Contemplating Throwing Electronic in. I Was Told That Last Guy Probably Had Wrong Coil! Is It Worth Givin It A Whirl?

It sounds like the wrong Ohm coil for the ignition. Personally, I like points, but you need copper core wires, not resistor core. You're not suppressing noise for a radio, but with resistor core, you WILL reduce voltage going to the points.
In my 1972 FL, I used to go to car swapmeets to get chevy points from mid 60's to 1972, from "Blue Streak" and use those. Lasted forever....
Of course, electronic ignition is almost foolproof and a hotter spark. Check with the MFGer of your ignition , and get the right coil...

I ran both when I had my Evo. Ran a dual points single fire setup for awhile, and I think electronic is the way to go. So much simpler now. Just need to be sure your charging system is up to snuff or else electronic ignition will let you know!

True that. When I was running the dual points setup, I could idle it down to 250 RPM.

I restored my 1978 fxs balanced and blueprinted and stroked it, roller rockers, mild cam, S&S super E carb., high flow S&S oil pump, and a crank vent, karata primary belt drive, stock compression, (wanted to ride not wrench), crane single fire electronic ignition (with voes). Why would you want circuit bresker ignition when you could install a quality electronic and forget it. Never have to deal with weak or sticky spring which affect your advance. Some purists like points I like set it and forget it.

you break down and you electronic ignition goes your screwed!!
With points you always keep a spare set in your headlight with a condensor done and down the road before you can diagnose your problems.equals more riding time as it goes
RIDE WRENCH AN REPEAT!!!
