Tranny Questains

Hi Im new to your forum.Im building a bobber,the donor bike was a 1982 FLT.Shovelhead motor with a rubber mounted 5 sp.Its going to be built on a wishbone frame that I had built.The builder told me the tranny would work just had to buy the right tranny plate. Well I now know thats not correct Im going to need a new primary and a solid mount transmission.This is where my lack of knowledge sends me to your forum to ask questains.What are my tranny options?????After doing some studying I believe its either a 4 sp or a early softail tranny.I would prefer to put in a 6sp with OD.Ive seen a good deal on Ebay from a business called Demon Cycles selling Ultima 6 sp softail trannies for $629 is this a option?Fitment is listed as 84-89 softail.Or I could buy a 5 sp case and drop my guts into it.Any info about the proper inner primary and trans would be very appreciated.

You're correct: You'll need a rigid mount 4 speed case. Most guys are using the 6-into-4 trannies and Ultima is a decent company to get it from.

What about the trannies listed as being softails trannies.The 6 into 4 option is so expensive.Im trying to keep this budget within limits.Also what inner primary do I use? My one off the FLT will be to short because of the frame post.
