2009 springer cvo back tire change

the sto ck back tire is a 240/55..i need a replacement and HD singapore stocks a 240/40
can this work and what will be differnece..

They are the same width but the sidewall is shorter on the 40. the numbers 50 and 40 in the tires you mentioned is the sidewall size as a percentage of the width of the tire 240/55 has a 133mm sidewall and a 240/40 has a 98mm sidewall as a example. they are both the same width tire.

240/55..... 240 is the mm width of the tire.

55 is the percentage of the sidewall width.

240mm wide, by 55% of the sidewall width = 132mm tall from the ground to the rim.

240/40.....240 is the mm width of the tire.

40 is the percentage of the sidewall width.

240mm wide, by 40% of the sidewall width = 98mm tall from the tire to the ground.

Basically..... the 240/40 tire is 68mm shorter over all, and 32mm shorter, for ride height in the rear, VS the other tire.
