Change of plans
Well, another change of plans. I came across a 1200 Sporty engine for next to nothing. After looking at making my XS650 a bobber the cost was starting to get above what I wanted to spend on that bike. I don't like to build something I am upside down in from the start. So I think I will make a bobber out of the Sportster and make my XS into a Street Tracker. In other words, sorta back to square one.

Only because I can only justify spending so much of the family resources on my motorcycling. If it was up to me I would spend all my money on motorcycles and skiing. For some reason I think the family would frown on that.

That sporty motor will open a whole lot of different possibilities for a frame. I dare say it's one of the most common powerplants for these conversions/builds.

I got the sporty motor for $500. You can't even get the primary for a big twin build for that price. The rest of the stuff is reasonably cheap and easy. Should be fun.

good luck on your build! here's some pictures of my first sporty build, it wasn't custom or anything but it was still nice to have actually built something (with help from my dad)
Post pictures of past Bikes
edit: I just noticed you posted in that thread so you've already seen it.
