paintin a tank

Well as per BadassBrutus' request, I am postin up a step by step of the paint job on a King Sportster tank for my ironhead. this is the second go around for this paint job, (long story if you don't already know the details)

Once I got started I forgot to take pics of every step along the way
so here are five to start, Hopefully I will get further along tomorrow.
Started by sanding, then sanding, then more sanding. Didn't quite take it all the way to bare metal (though I should have) but close enough.
step 1 - prime
step 2- wetsand
step 3 - prime again This would bring us to pic 1
step 4 - wetsand again
step 5 - seal
step 6 - shoot silver metallic base (sorry forgot to take pic)
step 7 - after drying, tack cloth it, then shoot gold metallic Pic 2
step 8 - after drying, tape off center Pic 3
step 8.5 - mask off area not to be painted in next step Pic 4
step 9 - tack cloth it and shoot with black diamond metallic
step 10 - after paint has lightly tacked up, unmask very carefully
then let dry Pic 5

step 11 - shoot with midcoat clear and let set over night and go grab a beer!

Nice job don't know what type camera you have but try putting a thin piece of tissue over the flash that should soften the flash and give a more even light, some times it works.

thanks, will try that, or if that don't work, I can carry the stuff outside when the sun is still out (except tomorrow it is supposed to rain)
plan of attack for tomorrow is start the fire in the gold area. Dont know how much I'll be able to get done though, as soon as my delivery truck gets here, I have a couple of signs to get started on.

BTW: here is the bike that this is going on once done, oh and the solo seat that was on the bike in this pic will not be makin its way back to the bike.

gonna start on it, hopin to get about half way through the process tomorrow, I think using a heat gun between layers will speed up the process, I am hoping to have it ready for clear by the weekend, but depends also on sign jobs (payin work has to come first)
