Help: Dyna muffler?

I am very new to this so I have posted in 2 spots I need some help PLEASE. I was wondering if all I wanted was more noise, can I get a slip on and not have to remap? I think if I want better performance I would need to remap is that correct? And which slip on would be best for just noise?

You could do a "baffelectomy" without doing a remap. There is a "sticky" posted by Dave on the exhaust board......

Welcome, S E, since the quick answer isn't often the correct answer,

and since we kinda like being sociable, you'll get a much more warm and

thoughtful response if you'll stop by the new members section and introduce yourself.

Ya see, about 50 times a month somebody drops in, and their very first post is

"Quick, How do I make it REAL loud?" ... and truthfully, some of us think that's not

a very desireable mod to a good motorcycle. Once you're like family, we'll try to learn ya somethin.

Stacia -
If you decide to do much to open up the muffler, enough to flow more freely, it'll make the bike run lean and hotter. It may not be a critical increase, but then it runs almost too lean when new from HD.

The safest thing to do is have it dyno tuned at the dealership, should cost about $150, and one way to make that worthwhile is do a bit more to it, put on a free flow intake at the same time and then the combined freer intake and exhaust will really need tuning, because it will make a difference in the performance too. I'm not as sure about the TC-96, but on the 88, the difference in the dyno chart with nothing more than free flow air cleaner and exhaust was very nearly as much as increasing the displacement. On the 88, for instance, the tune for the intake and exhaust change included moving the red-line up from 5500 rpm to 6250, and that's saying something.

While you're thinking about it, just take off the mufflers and ride it a short distance and see if you don't think it's too loud, the sound has too much crackle.
Another option, Dave recently put new slip fits..
Reinhart vs Rush?

The free flow air cleaner and pipes are as good a mod for the money as it gets.

An even better kit is the one Kainam suggests putting together with a zippers filter, wait till you have it and the low restriction exhaust before having it tuned.

Got a SE air filter? Thinking about going to the SE air filter setup?

welcome, Yes slip ons require no remap....HD has released a new exhaust thats legal in EVERY state (just letting everyone know-$300)

gotta go w/ these guys..SE slip ons are probably best bet because there designed specifically for HD...some aftermarkets may cause some issues..

You'd have to find "new old stock" or used,

I don't believe Harley sells any louder than stock mufflers anymore,

they are trying to avoid stiffer EPA guidelines.

There's good deals om EBay all the time.

Look for Screaming Eagle slip on or slip fit.

Help Dyna

Thanks so much for the information. I really appreciate the help. I had almost decided to bite the bullet and go with the power commander and be done with it. I love my bike so, I would hate to do anything stupid to it. This is my 7th bike and the one I will always remember as the best. Again thanks!
