Spring 2010 Upgrade(s)
I need a little advice...
Early Spring 2010 I am planning on adding a few items to my 2008 Street Bob. I plan on adding the following:
Vance and Hines BSS (Black)
Arlen Ness Big Sucker
With the above add-ons will I need a Power Commander or similar device? Is there anything that I am missing or will need that I haven't mentioned?
Does anyone have a rough estimate what this would cost me for parts and labor (I will have my dealer install the parts).
I am open to suggestions. Thanks.

IMHO yes. More air means you need more fuel. The bikes run lean to begin with because of EPA regs. The first question is whether your bike is under warranty, as some EFi mods will void the warranty, such as the Thundermax because it replaces the stock computer. Piggy-back systems, such as the PC should not, but check with your dealer before doing the mods (different dealers give different answers). You can go with a V&H FuelPak (cheapest), PC V (I've heard of problems on newer bikes, but I have heard a lot of things), or a Race Tuner (expensive, needs Dyno machine, and probably not worth it if all you're doing is Stage I upgrade).
Harley-Davidson Motorcycle Fuel Injection Explained
I started a while ago with a lot of input from members with a lot more knowledge than I possess. I researched the heck out of the topic and spoke with a lot of people (mechanics and bikers) about it and learned a great deal. Still, I am not an expert by any means, just sharing what I have learned.
Search for: PC or Race Tuner or FuelPak" and you'll get the thread

Alright....I talked with my dealer and mentioned that I wanted to add the V&H BSS along with a Big Sucker. I asked him if it was necessary to also add a PC and he commented that it wasn't necessary and would save me money. Me confused...

It is not something that you have to have, but your bike will run better with it and cooler as well.

It's not necessary because they can reflash (adjust) the electronic control module your bike came with. The PC, thundermax, or whatever gives you a greater control of the fuel air, etc., that's running your bike than the stock module does. By the way, if it were my bike, I'd think about getting a cam and adjustable push rods for it. What you want to do will help the performance, but a cam along with your proposed mods will really bring it to life. It add's a few hundred extra to it, but it's worth it in the end. What you want really doesn't require the dealer to install. A couple bolts are all your talking about. Unscrew this, and screw on that type of thing. If you go with the cam, then the dealer is probably needed. The dealer would be needed for the remap (flash) of the ECM probably, but your not going to ruin your bike riding it there to get it done after you add the sucker and exhaust. .....unless the dealer is a long ways away.
