If you're talking about what I think you're talking about that " wing nut " is a manual cruise control . You adjust it to hold the throttle at a certain position when at speed so as to be able to take your hand off the throttle and maintain speed . Loosen it for normal operation as the snap back to idle is a safety feature .

Grips

So that's what that "wing nut" is for. I just noticed it a few days ago and hadn't had time to look it up in the manual yet. I just figured I wouldn't play with it until I knew what it was. Thanks.

it's a throttle lock, or throttle tensioner. I don't think it was meant to be used as a cruise control, we call it a poor boy cruise control. it can be tightened or loosened to adjust how "easy" your throttle action is

Thers a little shoe on the inside of your switch. It sits on top of the screw your talking about. If you back it off and your throttle doe'st snap back, that little shoe prolly fell off, take your switch apart and take a look see. If you have a manuel you can see a pitcher of it.also if you have your grip jambed up on your bars to far it will stick.Loosen your switch just enough so you can slip your grip back just a little. try that first.
