Some great info so far guys - thanks.
HD2000 - My first consideration was the Sportster for a few reasons. Firstly I've always had a soft spot for them, and knew that if I ever went the Harley route in my riding life then it would always start with a Sporty.
Secondly, the Sportster being a smallish (not that small compared to the majority of rice rockets tho') will suit my size better. Both the missus and me are quite short - I'm 5'6" she's about 5'. I've come from a Honda sports tourer bike which was getting difficult for me to handle because I've developed an arthritic thing which is getting worse. This makes riding bikes where the rider is pitched forward too painful on my joints to ride any distance - hence the change to a Harley. The weight of the bike I get to replace the Honda is also a major consideration and the Dyna does feel considerably heavier than the Sporty.
