MSR Canister

Has anyone ever used an MSR canister to carry extra fuel on their scoot? If so how did it work out?

They work well. Seal up tight and you can just toss them in a bag. I've only had one time when the extra fuel was actually needed and that was an off road situation. Usually it's hard to go places where there are no gas stations. At least where I ride.

I am planning a trip though parts of the Cascade mountains here in Oregon for next summer. There are a couple spots that appear to be close to or in excess of my Sportys peanut tank, even with maximum fuel mileage. We will have two bikes with bags for the trip so carrying the canisters is no problem as long as they are safe. The safe part was what was of concern. Did you wrap them in anything?

I just tossed them in my bag. They are fairly strong and if crushed they will flex before cracking. You should be fine.

What is a MSR canister? The only thing I found was fuel tank for a little stove that uses butane/propane. Is that what ur talking about?

That is pretty much it. They come in several sizes, I belive up to 1quart. They are designed to carry fuel and not leak or need venting. You carry them in you back pack when camping or hiking.

MSR also makes the same metal bottles that are designed to carry liquid fuels. I have purchased 2 and they appear to be sturdy and come well recommended. I have found them sold in sporting goods stores.
