Goodbye Sportster, Hello Super Glide

I have been looking at moving up from my XL883 to a Dyna for a couple of months. It not that I don't like my Sportster; it is a fantastic machine that has been modified so that it rides great and handles very well. I guess that part of it is that I have done just about everything to the Sportster that can be done.

The Super Glide feels like a Sportster on steroids - a bit more grunt on the low end and a smother ride on the interstate highway. I'll probably pick it up Thursday or Friday.

The dealer let me out the door for $11,900 with an alarm system and my bank financed it for 5.1%. I figure that will tax, tag, title, transportation and the usual junk fees added in that I probably saved around $1,500 or so.

I bought my XL883 from Blue Ridge, primarily because Tilley didn't have the bike that I wanted. The sales folks at Blue Ridge are good, but the service guys are a bit harsh. When I did the Stage 1 upgrade Blue Ridge would not do a re-map. They almost $1k to put in a speed tuner and throw the bike on the dyno. I took it to Tilley; for $140 they did the re-map.

In this case I really wasn't there to buy a new bike. The salesman made the offer out of the blue, which they had done a few weeks before too. This time I did the math and it was a good deal.

They had a nice Super Glide Custom, but I didn't want wheels with spokes because you can't patch them on the road, it was $1k more than the plain Super Glide.

I didn't see one 2010 Dyna on the floor. Maybe Harley is making them clear out the 2009's before they can get a 2010 for that model. I'm just guessing.

We were in the high 50's today. At least it wasn't raining. This has been one of the wettest years that I have seen in NC.

tilleys is a pretty good bunch. i don't think you will be disappointed with there service, i'm a regular there, i don't buy much just meander around and visit. i've known most the guys there 20 something years and tilleys has also been real helpful with my drag racing program. if you want to make something go fast tilleys is the right place don has forgot more about tuning a bike than most techs will ever know...
