Dyna Dyno

One of the local dealers had an open house on Saturday and as long as it wasn't raining (or snowing) I took a ride over with a buddy. They were offering free dyno tests so I took them up on it.

I recently changed my exhaust from SE to Rinehart slip-ons and while I had bought some different jets I hadn't had the time to put them on. I bought the bike used and really didn't know what was in there but since the bike was originally purchased at this dealership I had them run the VIN and they had a record of re-jetting the carb a few years ago.

Dave had recommended (thanks again) a 45 or 48 pilot and a 185 main (shimmed) or the sporty main at 175. According to their records I have a 48 pilot and a 210 main.

Looking for anything obvious in the Dyno but the bike seems to be OK so I guess I'm wondering if I need to re-jet. How would the re-jetting change the way the bike runs. I'm new at this part so I'd appreciate any input.

Maybe I should have listed this in the Technical - Performance forum. Can somebody move it there or should I just relist it there?

Yes, it's an 02 wide glide. It's stock except for SE air and Rinehart exhaust. Not looking to win any races just want a great running bike. Just was looking for comments on anything that I'm missing in the dyno.

Did you have Harley do an EFI remap or did you install a tuner?

Pete

Hey Pete. It's carb'd so there were jet sizes to adjust. That's kind of where my question is on this. Are the jets I have OK or should they be changed. If I don't have to do it, than I'd rather not. I'm a rookie at doing something like this even though it looks easy enough. Probably just need to do my first one (I'm a virgin).

the numbers and torque look good, as far as re-jetting its kinda hard to say without an AFR (air fuel ratio) from the chart it has a little stumble at 3750 then it gets rough again at about 500 more rpm.

could be going lean at wot. what does the plugs look like and could you hear the engine sounds, like maybe a stumble at the rpms i noticed in the chart?

Hey Big Worm,
Thanks for the reply. I put new plugs in when I did the pipes but it's only been a couple of weeks and it's been raining a lot so I haven't pulled them yet to see. Since it's new to me it's hard to say what it "should" sound like vs what it "does" sound like but I'll keep an ear open to see. Sometimes it does "feel" like it could run smoother and stronger but I'm not sure.

im running a 185 and 45 on my 98 fxd. which is different cuz its an evo. but if its running a little rough i would suggest some tuning onthe mixture screw to richen or lean it up. assuming that yourshas been drilled out. do you know if it has? but the big thing is warm it up and check the plugs if they look a little white then try a half turn or so out on the mixture screw. warm it up again and check them again. but those jets seem to be near what your going for.

but check the plugs and maybe even post some pictures of them. its kinds hard to describe shades of white or black.

My camera sucks but here are a couple shots of my back plug. Hard to tell probably but we'll see.
