what should i look for on a dyna i bought on ebay?
so i bought a sweet twin cam 2003 dyna on ebay. it was slightly crashed, and has a dent in the tank, and bent handlebars. i was gonna put drag bars anyway so that dont matter, and i can get a new tank for $300 or so. i got the bike for $5600.
im picking it up on monday, it has a clean title, not a salvage or rebuilt or anything. the place has 100% positive feedback and over 1000 of them. so i guess a trust them when they say absolutly nothing else is wrong with the bike. frame is perfect, fork is perfect, no scuffs or scratches. just handlebars and a gas tank.
but, im new to the harley thing. what should i look or listen for, to make sure its all good. it only has 11k miles on it so thats good. but i dont wanna get it home monday and find some suprises.

Sense the bars are bent check the risers aint broke or bent and check riser bushing and look at the triple tree real good make sure it aint cracked. you said bike had round 10k miles change ALL fluids and check tension on belt. If it were me seein as im Mechinically challenged
Id fix it then take it ti Harley and have em check it out. I ride a 2000 Wide Glide and you ll love that bike.

The triple trees hold the steering stem and both fork tubes. There is an upper and lower.
The risers are the brackets which mount to the upper triple tree and hold the handle bars.
If you do buy it and bring it home, I suggest the following:
Because of the mileage and because it was wrecked, I would drain the fluid from the fork tubes, disassemble them, clean and thoroughly inspect the components, reassemble except for the spring, collar, and fluid, change the seals. Then work the slide action of each tube several times. Make sure the action is smooth and that there is no hint of binding.
I would also pull the rest of front end off to inspect and re-grease steering head bearings. This will give you a chance to really check the triple trees, and steering stem.
A service manual will be a big help when doing this, and everything else you do to the bike.

HI Eric. If you got it at EUHARDYS up near Green Bay they are a good place. They have good qualified mechanics (I have a friend up near GB who knows them) so while you got a good deal you may want to talk to them about doing some work if you see something obvious that needs to be done. They are pretty straight forward on their listings and tell you what's wrong with the bike in the listing and usually have already fixed a lot of the major stuff so the bike is ready to ride, if possible. They usually don't fix body parts (tank, fenders) but offer to install new / used ones if they have them. When I was looking I'd watch what they had and almost got one there but found a good deal closer to home.

Hi Erik,
I just traded my dyna lowrider in for a softtail deluxe. I bought it new for $14500 and added another $20,000 in chrome along with the anniversary package and got ten thousand for it on trade and it had 3200 miles on it. It was very responsive and an excellant bike around town. The dyna is a smaller bike and you will feel the cracks in the road bet other than that I loved it. It was my first too and i was very green or I would not have put all that chrome on it because it brought me nothing in return. But even that lesson I put $3500 in chrome on my new one. Remember you are always a hundred dollars away from finishing it. If you ever need anything I have bags pipes and a lot of other things that were replaced. Good luck and enjoy it you won't be sorry.
