how much is too much?

I'm looking at a 98 lowrider. very clean and owner has it priced right. my question is this and hope no ones offended by it but the owner weighs 275 and his wife weighs 210. they've logged 12,000 miles on it together including several trips to Daytona from Virginia and to other destinations as well. should I be concerned? is there a weight limit not to exceed? I assume they had cargo as well.also he said the lcd screen showing mileage is not working. assures me mileage around 21000. bought from a guy when it had 2 hours away from him so wondering if I should even take the trip to see it.

They were probably over the GVWR, but not by a crazy amount.

I'd be far more concerned about odometer not working. That bike is almost 20 years old. 21K is only a little over a thousand miles a year. That doesn't seem like much. Even with just modest use, that bike could easily have 50-60K on it. With average use, it would be pushing 90K+.

'98 was a good year for the Evo engine. You didn't mention price. Twin cam ('99 up) Lowriders can be had for $5k. Also make sure it's a "Lowrider" as advertised. It doesn't make a lot of difference price wise, but people often call all models in the Dyna family Lowriders.

When you say "it's priced right" just what is "right"? I'd be concerned about the "real" mileage more that the two sort of heavy riders. Maybe the owner bought it with the odometer broken and really has no idea what the mileage is.
Unless it's really, really a good price I'd steer clear.

Oh, the old speedometer is broken trick. If someone wasn't willing to spend the money to fix their speedometer, what else did they not do. I wouldn't buy it.

No proof of mileage, no sale for me. Wouldn't he also have to check the mileage discrepancy box on the title? Very hard to sell a bike with no way to verify mileage. That checked box on the title follows the bike like a voodoo curse...

$4500 is just a fair price. Have seen many 98 models go for as little as $3500, and they had working speedometers!

Good idea to steer clear.
