2006 was the first year of 6 speed transmission
2007 and up had the bigger crank (96"/103"), and 1.4Kw starter (vs 1.2Kw of 2006 and before).

Also, the 2006 models had issues with the inner primary bearing and the stators would come apart. All of which were resolved for 2007.

Hey Billy, at least he didn`t ask what slippery stuff to use....

OP: I would buy the 5 speed model if it were between `05 and `06 models (`05, bullet proof transmission and bullet proof compensator).

Wastin' yer time guys, he was only here long enough to ask the question, 1 visit and gone.

Maybe he'll come back if he buys. ..... Nothing gained, nothing lost.

FWIW I have a 2007 Dyna and only costly issue has been the compensator. Another issue, although not a big one, was a high idle problem on occasion. I fixed that by spraying the IAC down w/Seafoam carb cleaner while flipping the on/run switch on the handlebar to work the IAC. Just spray the cleaner up the little hole in the throttle body. These are two common issues with the 2007 and newer that I'm aware of.

Stock compensators for the 96 engine were not up to job. Friends 08 Electra Glide damn near grenaded. Mine was allowing engine to kick back and sneeze back thru the A/C. Even when new it would occasionally do it. Just get rid of it if has not already been upgraded to SE One.
