Success with price haggling the dealer?

Aloha everybody, I am looking at the possibilities of getting a brand new Wide Glide in the next 6 or so months. The out-the-door price the dealer at Bayside HD (Portsmouth, VA) gave me was $17,000. I am getting a loan with really good credit and I was curious if anybody has had luck with getting the dealer to drop price with some drawn out negotiations. With the economy being the way it is, I bet dealers are extremely thankful every time a bike leaves the showroom, so I'd think they would be willing to negotiate. Back to the question, has anybody gotten the dealer to come down a good amount or get a steal with a brand new model?

Quite the contrary. I was just talking to my friend that works at my local dealership. They're selling bikes like crazy. The same dealer that wouldn't come down on JPWendt's dad's bike $400 and let him walk. Maybe its regional, but right now, the haggling is slim.

6 months from now would be May. Season is starting. Not seeing it being better then. I'd suggest december through january. End of february (First full month in March) is Daytona bike week. They have a huge sales spurt then too.

Some guys have had some good luck though. Things like warranty or store credit for add-ons.

Today my dealer said they were "very slow"; blamed it on the economy.

But to Dave's point; negotiate when folks are putting their bikes away for winter. You may not get $, but a free service or two, etc.

6 months from now there will be more people buying for the "season".

No haggling down here either. However, like Dave said, you might swing some extras in your deal to feel like you won.

Depends on what buying .. Some popular new models, will see little if any break on prices .. If have Cash can help sometimes .. I bought the FXR4 on Dec 30 not sure if this is everywhere but in FL any Bike on the Floor will be taxed Jan 1st .. Got a pretty good reduction on the FXR4, They wanted 10,999.00 plus tax tag title .. Got it for 10,000 Cash OTD .. around $1700.00 saved.. Also does not hurt to compare if have competing Dealers close enough to shop around .. I have 6 Dealers within 100 miles of where I live although will add so far the closest one has beat them all which consider myself blessed ..

Not the hope I was looking for! haha. And as I think about it, 6 months will probly end up actually being 9 or so.. I have 2 local dealers, Bayside and then Southside in Virginia Beach which I will be checking out on saturday. And Bayside hasnt sold a single bike since I went there a week ago so maybe I will get lucky when I try and buy one.. Thanks for the replies

Buy in the winter and not during riding season if you want to negotiate. EVERYONE negotiates just depends on how much and how much effort you invest into it. Even if a dealer that doesn't negotiate you could get them to work with you too, have them invest some time in on selling you the bike and just before you sign tell them you just need to think about it for a day or so and I'm sure the'll come back with the old "What do I gotta do to get you on this bike today" No one's gonna give you something for free but if you look like your changing your mind they wanna change it back. I got my bike for a few thousand less then the out the door price but I got mine in NY in November, my wife thought I was nuts going then but realized when I showed her the price of the bike on the HD website and what I actually paid I did the right thing.

Yea, I feel like a celebrity when I walk into a Harley dealer in the winter.

Salesmen scattering to me to ask me if they can help.

Kinda cool actually
