HELP! Street Bob 09 Bars

Im not sure what to do. I have an 09 street bob and have the stock mini ape bars on the bike. Ive got about 700 miles on the bike and have been experiencing pain in my shoulders. Im about 6'1. I have tried to adjust the bars but nothing works. There is definately a bend in my arms and I think that is causing the pain in my shoulder blade. I was thinking about going to a drag bar (street slammer). Will this help straighten my arms out? Any input would be greatly appreciated. I went to the dealer and they werent a lot of help. Its gonna cost a lot of money due to the built in risers on the street bob. So Im hoping someone else my height had this problem. Another thought, what about actual ape bars? Im pretty sure if my arms straighten out that pain should go away. Thanks a lot!

Do you have shoulder pain doing anything else? If so I would pay attention to what angle or height your arm is at and that may help you decide what direction to go with bars. Not to be a vulture, but if you do change bars, I may be interested in your mini apes and cables.

No problem man. I will make sure I let you know when I change them. No, I dont have any shoulder problems whatsoever. Its just killing my shoulder blade. It actually gets so bad I cant turn my neck the longer I ride. I cant figure it out.

Try shorter apes and push them forward relative to the original stock angle. That way you'll lean forward more but still have a reasonable stretch. And I figure your pain is coming from having to hang on for dear life at speed.

I had a bit of pain with my stock bars - more in the back area then shoulder blades. (my back is shot to hell) My new bars I can set them so I can stretch way out. But I don't use my hands to support my weight. If you do that you kill your wrists and hands.

I would try and ride a few different bikes with different bars, until you find one that is comfortable. I know this is tough, because it's hard to get somebody to do that. But maybe you could ask a few people at a rally if you can just have a seat on theirs to get an idea.

It could also be your sitting position......

There may be a few steps not clear on this... but removing the side cover for the clutch cable is easy. The only trouble I ran into was instead of using a allen bit on my 3/8 ratchet, I used a regular allen wrench on the bottom bolts so I could clear the exhaust. (I didn't want to pull the exhaust for a few bolts) Once the cover is loose, you have to pull the snap ring out. (snap ring pliers help with this) After that's out you can take the cable loose, and then re install the new one.

There should be about 1/8" play at the clutch handle. It'll probably be fine, but clutches have to be adjusted every so often anyway. It's not hard to pull the derby cover and adjust the clutch pack. This is highly recommended. It's easy, and there is no reason to take the chance.

All of this is really simple, and a factory manual will be the best tool you can buy.....
