Captain, shes breaking up

I have had a few issues with the bike running crappy. Cutting off when driving. Thought I had bad gas. I worked on the carb. Took it apart, cleaned it. Put it back on. Still ran poorly. Turned out the battery cable was loose. Felt like an A$$. I tightened it. Went on My way and all was good. 2 nights ago, I picked up sons friend. On the way back home- started doing it again. As driving, the lights went out- and the bike cut off. I figured, dang cables are loose again. I took another look. They are tight as can be. To the battery- and also the cable it self.

So now I am lost, yet again. I really need it fixed! Its not just a ride. Its My vehicle. So yeah.. any ideas I would appreciate!

17 year old cables...... Make sure they're not only tight, but not beginning to separate/break at the crimped ends, simulating a loose cable.

I don't mind walking at all. It's the walking while pushing a non-running motorcycle that irritates the crap out of me.
