09 battery & stator replaced & still dead battery
I have an 09 FLHT 2 weeks ago went to start bike & battery was dead. I charged the battery & got the bike running, while riding I noticed volt gague was going between 10-14 volts & then had a smell of buring wire. took the bike to dealer & they said the stator & battery need replacement, took bike home & went to ride bike 1 week later & batery dead, recharged & while riding volt gauge will go from 12-14. & oil pressure reads 0-32. 4 days later battery dead,
back to dealer again !

Did they even bother to test the system after the last repair ?
There should be a printout of the charging system test as it's required by the MoCo for them to get reimbursed on the warranty claim .
I'd ask to see the test printout .

You can make some simple tests Yourself. Got a Meter?

If you've got a meter, you can make some simple tests. First, when you say it charges 10-14 volts, it must be 14.2. Be sure some thing is not pulling the battery down overnight. Got any new electrical accessories? Disconnect the ground cable to the battery. Put an Amp meter between the open circuit, it should read near zero, if only miliamps. Next, load test the battery yourself. With everything connected. Put a volt meter between the two battery terminals. It should read more than 12.5 volts, fully charged. Disconnect the spark plug wires and ground them to the cylinder fins using aligator clips and wires. Now crank the engine over while watching the voltage drop. If it goes below 9.5 - 10.0 volts while cranking for about 15-20 seconds, the battery is bad. Try some of these things first. I'm always suspicious of new electrical add ons.

Bingo, should have been done with the stator and battery.

If you replace the stator it is a good idea to replace the voltage regulator too..and they are a 3 phase system....so when you plug it together, remember to put dialectric silicone in the connection....this will keep moisture out so the connectors don't short out to each other....

Has anyone looked at the negative battery cable where it connects at the trans yet ? They have a tendency to get loosened up at that point .
