turn signal 4way flasher issue

I've been pulling my hair out with turn signal no rh turn frt or rear found drk brn wire off center lug on 4 way toggle switch and lug was broken. A repair shop repair gone bad I replaced the toggle switch with a grainger 6 pole switch sp dt switch but I only have 4ways all the time or rh & lh turn signals and no 4 ways or vise versa the old switch isnt working to see what type of switch i really need. Any one no what type of switch i need and where you can get one at a resonable price I have turn signals but would like every thing to work right I can use the help went thru the forum tech files ran out of patience and the dog was bothering me for her d*** biscuits any help would be great
working on my 85 harley electra glide tour glide FLT
thanks big john@dog

Dude.....slow down. Use some punctuation so I can read this without getting a headache, and I'll help you with what I can....

Year/make/model.

Issue.

What "toggle switch". If some hack installed a "toggle switch" then it's all "custom" work, and likely, nobody here's gonna be able to help without seeing it.

If it wasn't fixed right the first time, then you may have to start from scratch, and do it right THIS TIME.

4 ways and turn signals

It's been a long day and it's been all running together like my post
.
My 85 electra tour glide has a toggle switch for the 4 way flashers mounted on the column.
It has a yellow wire with a jumper on lower 2 terminals
The center set of terminals have a drk brn and purple wire on them .
The top setof terminals has a tan wire and a pink one .
When the switch is down your blinkers are suppose to work
When you flip the switch up your 4 ways are suppose to work. This a stock option I believe on this bike
What type replacement switch should this be and were can i get one okay cheap

You are 100 percent correct. It was used through the early to mid 80's then in 1988 (I think) they integrated everything. The toggel is on the back of the headlight nacelle, next to, or opposite the fog lamp switch.

So..... it sounds as if you have the "power" wire on the wrong pole, because it's powering the 4-ways, no matyter where you have the switch position.

Do you have a manual with a wiring diagram?

The 6 pole switch is supposed to have power-in wires to the two center poles, one on each side. One for t/s on one side, and one for 4-ways on the other.

ok, now I am lost, the bike isnt one I am familliar with.
with my bikes to get the 4 way flashers to work, you hit both turn signal buttons at same time, and my 74 has no signal lights at all.

you might just have to go through J&P or the likes and order the stock replacement switch

and I hear ya about long frustrating days with problems on bikes, been there myself man

4 ways ad blinker

Hey Dave
The way I listed the wiring is the same way the wiring print has it.
I dont think I have the right switch do you Know what type of switch it is suppose to be.
like a dp dt with 6 terminals i have a sp dt
I think it's a 67843-70 flasher switch it's 30 bucks do you know any other brand that would replace it that is cheaper

I'd check with NAPA and see if they can cross that number. I've done it with other parts, like the brake light switch for the rear, and 2 way switches aren't anything special, but your current replacement isn't jiving with the wiring.

4 ways and blinkers

hey rocker box 1

yea it's a harley 85 electra glide tour glide
I dont know why they had to tie the 2 together with this switch.
If the old switch still worked it would 've been a better day.
Someone has been cutting and hacking on the wiring and using scotch loc's I think if i could get a new switch every thing would work.
I treid every combo i could on the switch I thought it was
I've be replacing wiring and resoldering in new wires and shrink wraping the new repairs

Thanks big john@dog
