Unhappy road king won't start

I rode the other night and it ran fine.Next day it would turn over but not fire.I tried it later in the day and it started.Turned it on and started it acouple times, went for a ride, and it seemed ok.
Next day it wouldn't start again.I was told at another site to check the stored codes.I followed the procedure and didn't get any codes to show up.I checked for spark at the plug wire and it is not firing.
It is an 01 roadking,fuelinj,54k miles.I bought it new and have never had any problems like this.Any help would be appreciated,
Thanks for looking

I assumed it was getting fuel, but I checked last night and it's not.No fuel,no spark.C'mon guys,I need some help. How about the Ckp sensor.Does anyone know how to check it,I wuld guess it sends 12v to the ecu when it sees the crank

Clantz....

Most people start out by going to the "New to the Community" section and introduce themselves. Despite it being a public forum, not many forums just dole out information to new members with 1-2 posts, just because they WANT it. You've already gone to another site....so why here, now? I assume the other site wasn't doing much for you, either.....

For starters, (No pun intended)

If it was a crank sensor, it *should* set a code, but no gaurentee.

If no fuel, AND no spark, it's either a crank sensor or ECU related issue.

Buying a manual would be most beneficial here, as it tells you how to test most sensors and troubleshoot problems like the one you have.

Didn't mean to dis the site or anyone in it.Just been a bad week.Took the week off to put an old car back together, didn't plan on the scoot taking a dump.I'm not one to spend a lot of time on the net.To me,it's a tool,I use it when I need it.I thought the reason for these forums was to help a Brother with a problem with the scoot. So, as for introduction,I live in Ohio,my first Harley was a '87 Superglide I bought new.The RK is my 5th Harley.I plan on retiring in acouple years and moving to the Daytona area.
Agian, sorry if I came across the wrong way, just looking for some help.I do have the fac service manual, couldn't find anything in it. From what I've read,it sounds like the ckp sensor.Haven't had a chance to really mess with it,been working on the car,the honey do list, and today is friday and I've got a funeral to go to,
Like I said,it's been a bad week. Thanks for the info.I'm out of town again next week,so the scoot may sit for awhile.I will post when I get it fixed.Again,Thanks,Bro

Not 100% sure on bikes but on autos for sure the fuel pump gets it signal from pcm (powertrain control module) which has to see ignition voltage prior to sending its signal to the pump nothing else, which will cycle the pump and prime the injectors.

If your NOT getting any fuel (and cant hear the pump running ect.) along with no spark which should need to see the same thing ignition voltage along with engine rpm to sync the spark, my best guess would be ECM/PCM related. Due to the 2 concerns being related.

I.E. Not sending the go-ahead signal for the systems to operate.

However im a GM mechanic not a Harley mechanic.

Sounds like it could be a relay . Test all the fuses and relays before throwing parts at it . ALSO ... has the cam train ever been serviced ? If the bearings are bad the cmp may have been damaged . Pull the " timer cover " off and remove the sensor and look for nicks or gouges in the groove . If it's damaged you've got cam bearing problems . I don't remember if the 01' still had cmp sensors yet but it's something to look at .

Thumbs up RoadKing Running

I checked the ckp sensor and it read about 2M ohm, which is basically open. I picked up a new one and checked it before I put it in and it read about 1k,which is more reasonable. It fired right up!
Thanks for the help.I'd say if anyone has this problem to check it with an ohmmeter. If it's not reading around 1000 ohm,it is probably bad.
Again,thanks for the input

One of the things I've seen happen that was similar to what you're describing is, the battery terminals could be loose or corroded. When ever an intermittent start occurs, one of the first things I do is check the connection and condition of the battery.
