Security System Problems - I think

Help!

I'll give you the full story. This morning I noticed a receipt for a tire change I had done last week and I thouht it would be a good idea if I wrote down the milage from the bike on it. I didn't know what the milage was so I walked out to the bike to see.

The Security System on the bike (2002 EFI Deuce) was activated but the ignition switch was not locked. So I just reached down and flipped the switch to the Run position, and the dash lit up as usual including the odometer, and the flashing turn signal lights of the security system but within just a couple of seconds there was an audible click, like a relay popping, and everything, I mean everything, shut off. Yikes! I grabbed the Key Fob and disarmed the Security System with two quick clicks and got the usual double flash of the signal lights. However after that the next couple of tries got the same result as my first try, just a couple of seconds of dash lit up and then an audible click (more like a "sproong" sort of sound like a spring was sprung) and then nothing.

So I was stumped but I moved forward anyway - told you I did something stupid - and removed the battery, tossed it on the charger while I cleaned both terminals and cable ends, pulled the fuses and made sure the prongs were not corroded, and even went so far as to remove my Power Commander. Put back together and tried her again. This time the ignition stays on and I get dash lights but there is no sound of the fuel pump starting up and although the engine will crank it will not run (actually it did pop and start but as soon as all the gas that was in the system it quit running). That is the normal reaction if someone tries to steal the bike, as I understand the Service Manual, but trying the various stuff in the Service Manual (SM) seems to have no effect. I bought this bike used and have no idea what the Security PIN number is - or if there even has been one enter (I think the default is the last several digets of the serial number, but not sure).

I have no idea what to do now. Anyone got any guesses? I've tried the sequence in SM Table 8-11 and at step 3 I get two flashes, as it should.

I have also tried the sequence in SM Table 8-10 but at step 5 my security indicator on the dash does not illuminate after 10 seconds or any other length of time.

I'm open to any suggeston.

Check for codes . Hold the speedo trip button in and turn the ignition on at the same time . If you've got codes look them up in the book and go from there .
Is your battery shot ?

I did as you suggested and held in the Odometer button while turning on the ignition. I did get something in the window but it certainly doesn't look like an error code. Here is what it read:

dOICLr

To answer the other questions. My batter is 1 year old, a gel cell, and as noted above I made sure it was fully charged first thing, also cleaned all the terminals, checked all the fuses (and cleaned their terminals also) and also pulled and checked the terminals on both the Ignition and Fuel Pump relays.

As of now when I turn on the ignition there the usual start up sounds are different. When it was good I'd hear first the fuel pump whir to live and then some clicking as the rest of the systems came on line, this would take about 2 seconds after the key was turned - now I'm only getting the clicking, no sound of the fuel pump firing up. When I try to start it the bike will actually start, and run for about 1 second before it dies from lack of fuel. This is what it is supposed to do according to Table 8-10 in the Service Manual when you are trying to establish a new Security Code without the Scanalyzer, however my bike will not respond past that point. It is concievable that either my fuel pump or its relay failed and just happened to do it when I turned that key on yesterday, otherwise it seems to be a programming problem with the security system. Needless to say I'm hoping for the later because those pumps are a real pain to get in and out of the tank.

The d01CLr is the first read , keep pushing the button , it will go through 10 , d01 through d10 . the CLr means clear ( no codes ) .

Thanks for getting back to me. I finally gave up saturday afternoon and loaded the bike up for the ride-of-shame (on the back of the truck) to the Dealer. I'll report back when they figure out what the problem turns out to be.
