Whats the most likely Culprit
Working on my friends 92 FLH with a Screaming Eagle ignition black box(cdi, brain, whathaveu). It starts up and runs fine, just after 1/2 to a full hour of riding does it cut out. It dies right out no sputtering or anything else just like somebody turned off the switch, tach goes to zero. Pretty sure it is not the ign. coil, cause the tach went out. The bike will start up again after a period of cooling off i.e. 10 to 20 min.
Thanks for any and all help
Thure

check your gas tank...the vent might be clogged ...seen it happen a bunch of times, tank lets out gas without venting and creates a vacuum in the tank till no more gas can go out...cracking the cap release it and away you go....the vent in the cap goes bad....clogs up...

Module (ignition) or the coil. There's a coil testing procedure in the tech "electrical" section. If it turns off like a light switch , it's definitely electrical/ignition.

The '92s didn't have a crank position sensor.
Crank position sensors weren't used until the Twin Cam motors.

The tach went out ? ... The tach wire ( pink ) connects to the neg. side of the coil , if the tach goes out or has an intermittant problem it can ground the coil out and cause the symptom you described .

Agreed. I've also seen a tach short, and cause the same issue....cause it's connected to the coil.
