synthetic in evo

Was told by my dealer to not run synthetic in my98 evo because it will leak like a sieve. Anyone ever have problems with synthetics in their evo?

1995 Evo Dyna. Ran synthetics for a year in engine. No leaks. Still run Synthetics in primary and trans.

No leaks.

Your dealer is a poopy-head.

I put Amsoil in my 1996 Evo, and the rear rocker box gasket started to leak, after I replaced them the leaks went away. But I have seen it happen on alot of bikes when I used to work at a shop, but I do not know why your dealer would tell you that unless they are like the dealers near me, they do not want to mess with Evo's anymore.

I agree, that if there are faulty gaskets, a leak may show up, but synthetic oil doesn't CAUSE the leak.

Those same gaskets would have failed regardless, at a later date.

Thanks guys. I thought the dealer might be giving me a bunch of "poopy". I might stick with the regular harley oil anyway.

My buddy has been running synthetic in his 93 EVO for a couple years. runs great...no leaks...make sure you get the right oil filter for the EVO engine. lots of dealers are using a universal filter for EVO's and Twin Cams.. There are different part numbers..The one for the EVO is...63796-77....... The Twin Cam one is:...63798-99A They have a different micron rating.....

I run synthetic in my 94. I have for the last couple years and almost 20,000 miles and I haven't had any issues, leaking or otherwise. I'm changing the cam this weekend, so I'll have a lookie inside.

I picked my bike up used and was told the same thing by my dealer, After reading a few articles in American Iron and talking to my indy shop I decided to go with synthetic (Amsoil).
Been running it for 3 years in my '97 with no problems, as a matter of fact bike runs cooler.
