Gas in oil

My bike has been running real good. Power is nice, engine smooth. I filled up Tuesday. Got some cheap gas ( I was in the middle of no where and did not have a choice). Started popping real bad. Back firing from the exhaust. I went last night to the part store, got some gas treatment. 20 minutes later. Yepp running good. My cousin came over. Told him about filling it up, and how the gas tank is half gone already. Looked around the ground- no gas leaks. Smell - nope no smell of gas. He suggested pulling the oil stick. The oil tank is over full, and yeah- gas is in thier.

I did some reading on the net. I read a few things looking for confirmation. 1) if I leave the gas valve open, it can drain down. 2) the float can be stuck open, again, causing it to leak down.

My thoughts, first and most obvious, change oil and filter. Second be sure not to leave the gas valve open.

Any other ideas?

I sent a few private notes, Dave and to Nathan. I like doing things, figuring them out on My own- hate to pester people. So I thought I would put it here as well.

Any onformation would be greatfully appreciated.

Safe rides!

Seems like I remember that some carb floats that were not metal were not real good with some gas treatments, it would work on them and make them heavy, so they weren't floats anymore, especially in over concentration like could happen in a small tank.

I think I'd be expecting to have to do some carb repair, which I was never good at. Take it away Dave...

its a 92 sportster, 883 Has about 30,000 miles. The problem past week was the battery cable, again. I bought a washer with the teeth to hold or grip better. That e3nded that issue. I did leave the valve open for the gas, now its closed- hope fully that will end that perolem.
