Cam install update:

Cam's in.

After some jerking around with the lifters that took FOREVER to pump up, (despite sitting for 24 hours in oil) they finally did. Spoke to Adam at Northshore Motorcycles twice regarding the pushrod adjustment and the lifters, and both times, they were helpful and pleasant on the phone with me....

The cam is excellent. Has a much lumpier idle, but the best part is the torque that's felt, as compared to the stock, or even the SE1 cam. Advanced timing 3* and there's no pinging (although it's cool out now) and it still starts nice and easy with no stuttering.

I was originaly running a 48 Pilot jet, with a 180 main, and changed the main to a 190, per Andrews recomndation. They actually said a 195, but I only had a 190.

FYI: SCHMIDTY.....my idle issue on the kickstand might have been the loose emulsion tube that I found, on changing the jets...(???) The issue seems to be gone now..... Float level was fine.

A few pics....

Looking down the front tappet block hole, at the rear tappes on the cam. Steep ramps....

Adjusting the rear exhaust valve. This job is easier when you can SEE the lobes and tell if it's on a low spot....... Used new lifters (again) and MADDOG 1201 Aluminum, tapered adjustable pushrods. No contact with the stock pushrod tubes either, like some alloy pushrods do.

While I had everything apart, I repainted the jugs and did the rocker boxes and points cover in the VHT wrinkle black.

did you do the braided lined or did the hose come with em. I have a kit to do it but turned out to be cheep metalic coated plastic. On my radio controlled monster truck (t-maxx 3.3) I fitted metal braided lines. so I guess is the a good kit out there for motorcycles?

That line for the breathers was added by me. Instead of the expensive Earl's plumbing end fittings, shrink tubing was used and all was safety wired. The entire deal cost me less then $12 to do.

I have a Traxxas 3.3 too. Those things are fun!! I got a little carried away with all the aftermarket suspension, beadlock wheels and a full interior rollcage though....

Hey Greg......my tapping is gone. I did more measurements, and my old cam gear was too small, leading to excessive gear lash, which results in a ticking/tappet type noise. It's now been replaced with a warm, cozy mild cam gear whine.

Oh, man, I should have taken pictures while I was changing mine and I could've been famous, like Dave.

Right on !!!
i have no doubt that the excess noise is sloppy machine work...
i wouldnt be surprised if i'm seeing the same type of issues...but no new cams in my immediate future....gonna get the oil pressure guage and hose installed on friday, and if it reads good...i'm rollin with it...greg

I wanted to take more Chris, like I did in my original cam swap, but that really burns up a lot of time, and the camera always gets full of motor oil.
