1973 Flh

I recently aquired a 1973 FLH in baskets and there are many parts missing as usual. What rocker arms will work in this motor? I have two that were in the boxes with part numbers 17389-66 and 17392-66. They don't match the parts book numbers. Will this engine run with almost anything that fits? I have two more that look like they are made of bronze with no numbers. This is my first Harley basket case and it looks to be a nice project.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Jim

You need to buy a Moco parts book, and Manual. If this is your first Shovel, you'll need help.

No....almost anything won't fit. You might have Pan rockers arms there, or something aftermarket. You need to make sure, as well as making sure their tolorences are good, as to not grenade a motor after assembling it.

There's a specific front and back rocker arm. Shafts are the same, I believe.

Bushings need to be spec'd.

17392-66 is a intake rockerarm.

17389-66 is a exhaust rockerarm.

Thanks for the info. The problem I'm having is with the part numbers. My official HD parts book lists the rocker arms to have numbers 17360-66a for the rear exhaust and front intake and number 17375-66a for the front exhaust and rear intake. These numbers are not the same as the ones I have.

17360-66A (front intake & rear exhaust) and 17375-66A (front exhaust & rear intake) are what you need to make a set of heads, according to OEM numbers.

17392-66 (front intake & rear exhaust) and 17389-66 (front exhaust & rear intake) are probably an aftermarket number, but match for something that'll work. You'll see those numbers coincide with 1979 Shovelhead parts, but they'll still work.
