as stolen from some of the greatest minds on the internet:
here's how the beta test works;
a beta ratio may be given on a filter like this b10=50
(depicted this way on many filter systems)
this simply means that the beta ratio for 10 micron equals 50.
now divide the the ratio, (in this case 50) into 100 i.e. =2
subtract the answer from 100, (in this case, 2 from 100)
and the answer is 98..
this filter is 98% efficient at removing particles 10 micron in size..
regardless of oil viscosity, or temperature...
this is as simple an explaination as i could find...
if we have the beta scale, we can test any filters true efficiency, and particle removal capacity, based on the above formula....
all we need now is the beta rating of the filter in question, and we know the true filter capability.......g
all i know is, when i put dirty oil in, clean oil comes out....

Despite the "Micron rating" the Beta ratio and Max flow rate was not discussed, and I was told that not knowing those two factors, and just having the micron rating means nothing. It's only part of the equasion.....

That is true. I bumped on this article before and this is confirmed. Harley's has quality champion filter filter on them.

Anyways,,2000 toyota pu,,totaled in a head on with a f150,,ford was totaled also,,lol 395 k miles ran like new,,,Castrol roach oil and a Wix filter every 5,000 miles,,,

Just sitting here wondering what the average cost of a filter is. I know I was paying$12 for the SnS filters and I switched to the Amsoil for a while and that was $14.
What does the OEM HD filter go for?

I pay $8.95 for the 5 micron filter. The standard filter is $6.95.
