I have a 1984 FXRT. Thia is an early EVO engine. I have changed the heads to Eldebrock heads. I have changed the head bolts to the newer style that has studs in the lower end and the cap like long nuts. I keep having head gasket leakage problems. Does any one know what the torque should be on these bolts with this setup?
With the heads on the cylinders measure from the top of the stud to the flat on the head that the head bolt contacts when tightened . Then measure the thread depth in the head bolts . The head bolts might be bottoming on the cylinder studs before the head gasket gets torqued properly .
Then ... try going to the New to the Community section and doing an intro please ! :nod
With a Cometic MLS gasket(only ones we use) the spec's that Kirby said, happen to be exactly what we use here as well.
And as he also said, never an issue.

Many of evos do have issue with the studs pulling threads. If that is all good, the cometic gaskets as stated work great. Dont forget a drop of oil on the under side of the head bolt and one drop in the threads. If that is not done you may not be getting the correct tq.
This is an older thread, you may not receive a response, and could be reviving an old thread. Please consider creating a new thread.
