shovster engines

anyone built a shovster motor? always liked the look. is it worth the effort? level of mods involved? always wanted to build one. frame mods as well?

They were a unique look, but the large chamber, along with the Shovel's too-large port design, did not lend anything to the engine.
BUT, IF, you were to get the cubes up, say, in the mid-nineties-up, THEN, the ports begin to work, sort of.
The Iron XL heads can be brazed, to get a raised floor going, and if worked with on a flow bench, will work.
Just paint 'em silver.
Still beats the hell outta' a "Panster". (OUCH!!)

the shovsters were kind of a fad back in the day,we did a bunch of them.worked OK with big displacment & STD shovelheads

i built one about 20 years ago for the ol ladys trike. sportster magneto,generator, cams. nice upgrade for the old flattie.

Had a 100 incher built in 77 Dragraced it till it blew the back jug off.14 to 1 cr and 60% nitro a lotta fun. Just bought a salvage 68 to get the motor for mine gonna try a streetable re-creation with my old frame if I find enough shovester parts.

Built 3 of those over the years.

i've still got the trike w/45 magnum motor. but i don't know how to put up pics[ f in dinosour]. maybe my kids can help me. i'll give it a try????
