Winter Storage

Over the winter, when my bike is in storage, assuming I use a fuel stabilizer, is it better to fill the tank with a gasoline that contains no ethanol, or does ethanol content in the fuel not make any difference?

Its August.

I refuse to provide an answer to this question until late November.

I hear ya, I'm from Kentucky, but I live close to Chicago now. I'm used to getting a few freezing days and maybe 5 total inches of snow all winner.

Year before last here, we got twenty inches over night. I'm an optimist though, maybe I can make it until November!

If we get a winter like last year you wont need storage. I put 3K miles on my old bike between Sept and April.

Unfortunately I cannot answer your ethanol question. I do know that opinions on how to store your bike run as deep as which oil to use. It seems like everyone does it just a little different.

Personally, I do not like to "store" my bike. You never know when it is going to be in the 50's in December or January and you get the itch to ride. Therefore I keep it plugged into the tender and full of fuel. At the very least I take it out every couple weeks for an hour or so.

The best benefit is that with the bike at the ready I find myself riding more often in the winter.

C'mon Global warming!!!

Last year, I rode on Thanksgiving Day, Christmas and Christmas Eve and New Years Day and I live in the lake effect zone. I never stored the bike last year.

I rode all winter....

Like JP said, everyone has their own twist on storage.

I usually mix a bit of SeaFoam in the tank and keep the battery on a trickle charger but I keep my bike in my garage. The garage is not heated but it is attached to the house so it doesn't get bitter cold in there. I then try to get the bike out once a week and start it up, let it warm up and try to ride it just down to the end of the road and back...if I can...and if there is no snow.

Of, and switch to 40 weight oil for days that never get above 40*

I don't know about Chicago area, but you cannot buy pump gas

in Dallas area any time of year that it does not have 10% alcohol.

I'm with the don't store it crowd, if you just roll it out of the garage

and warm it up and drive around the block, it's better than storing it.

All gas in Indiana is 10% and they are working on getting it to %15

Remember letting it just warm up is not best thing either. You need to get oil up to operating temps for a sustained period to keep condensation out of your oil.
