If you can hang on for a week or so, I am putting mine in the shop for the heads to get re-worked to SE specs, and replace the lifters (I also have just over 100K, and the tech suspects it is a lifter going south). I didnt look to see what kind of engine you have, mine is a twin 88" with the 95" kit on it. He says the job will take around a week, when I pick it up, I'll let you know if that made the noise go away.

Yeah, I'm in no hurry to tear it down.

Ok, ride dropped off (had a sad face) and now headed to NY for the week. Tear down starts tomorrow and I check back in on Fri, when I return home. Mechanic says he will not do anything (other than heads) until I get back so he can show me the parts he pulled out and go over recommendations.
First time using this indie shop, but so far he seems to be a real stand up guy, and seems to know his stuff.

So coming back to this noise. I only hear it under load, when it's cold, at around 2500 rpm, and it sounds like it is coming from the left (primary) side of the front cylinder when I'm riding. Last time I pulled the primary, everything looked good, but the chain was showing enough stretch that I'm thinking I need to replace it sometime this upcoming year. Is it possible that this is what I'm hearing?

Re: Top end noise (I think)
THIS THREAD LIVES!
Found the issue. When I put my exhaust back on last time I used standard crush gaskets instead of the SE compression gaskets, and my Big Radius exhaust was leaking at the mating surface when it was cold. The fix was almost as simple as me....

That was good news. Mine was the lifters going bad, as well as the rear, lower piston rod bearing, complete overhaul fixed mine. Glad yours was relatively simple.
