oil leak diagnose

????????? ????????? ??? HARLEY-DAVIDSON CT Sportster 1200 Custom XL1200R 2007

See part 1 in diagram.

Sitting on bike...directly under the gas tank....closest one to the rear.

Seems that very small amounts of oil is leaking out from around the washer.

Is this an easy fix?

Yes. You can simply remove the single bolt and reseal or replace the washer. Have you washed that bolt off and made sure the leak was from there specifically, and not coming from another location?

Oil leak - part 2

Hey Dave63..... thanks for your help on the other thread.....

No.....I've not made sure......but I'm fairly sure as that is the only area....(and some of the cover surrounding it) that is a bit oily.

Everywhere else is clean.

Ok. I only ask, because it's not uncommon for the rocker box gaskets to leak, and sometimes, oil can "travel" due to wind, and look like its coming from one place, when it's really coming from another.

In this case, you need to make sure it's not oil venting from the air cleaner, and just landing on the rocker box......
