103 CI Low Oil Pressure

I have a 2011 FLHTK with 31,000 mi. It has Stage 1 and 204 cam. When I bought it used a couple of months ago it had Amzoil 60 W. As the weather cooled off in FL, I changed to Amzoil 20W50. Today I was riding in a slow escort and idling when the oil pressure dropped and the low oil pressure light came on whenever at idle. It was about 65 degrees out. I've noticed the oil pressure drop at idle when hot before but never this low. Is this common on the 103 motor? What can I do?

If you tripped the light there is a problem. Could be a number of things.

But that light going on is bad news, assuming the "idiot" light is not malfunctioning.

Not normal. You need to check the psi with a manual gauge. If still low then you need to pull the can chest cover and see what's going on or if something is wiping out the oil pump. Even though you have the hydraulic chain adjusters, some have seen failures.

DO NOT ride the motorcycle any more, until you have that addressed, or you could very well set the stage for a v-twin charcoal meltdown.

you need to have a baisley oil pressure spring installed. that will bring your oil pressure up some not as high as mine though..i installed a fueling oil spring. 55-60 psi, but i have a S&S gear 510 cam so i need that initial pressure to keep the bearings in the cam plate lubed.4 hrs labor if i think right.

As much as I agree the Baisley spring is the tits, his issue is a mechanical one, as his light is coming on, and that only happens when psi drops below 5 psi.

Yes, a spring would raise the psi, but he's losing psi for another reason, which has to be addressed first.

Having the camchest open is a good time to add that Baisley though......

IMO ... Verify that the oil pressure sender is functioning properly then test the pressure with a gauge screwed into the sender port before tearing everything apart.
