Oil Filter question

I am doing servicing on my '97 FXSTS with an Evo engine. I was wondering if the filter for the TwinCam engine can be used on it and if there is any advantage over the "normal" filter.

No. Evo uses a 30 micron filter, where a TC uses a 10 micron filter. Differnt oiling systems with different oiling paths.

Thanks Dave! I thought there might be a reason why Harley and other parts places are still selling both types.

Whew!!! I just checked my Harley filter and it's 63796-77A. I had bought a filter from J&P, but the dang thing had no filter wrench nubs on it. The part number is 7400020. I use 20W50 dino oil.

Are there any after-market oil filters that meet the EVO spec?

Verify with Dave63, but I think J&P has filters that meet the specs. K&N has some nice ones, but they are kinda pricey.

Good ol' EBay has a bunch of them listed. Search for 63796-77A. That is the original Harley number.
