electronic throttles
Good day! I am a new member to this forum. My daily ride is a self built 1991 89 cu in Sportster that will spank a V-rod on an average day. It is just for fun and racing. My question today is about electronic throttles on 08 bikes. Is there a way to test these units on the bench? I am putting hidden wires into a nice set of fat apes on an FLHX. The throttle wants to go into limp mode. I am wondering if the throttle is hooped or a plug loose. Where can I find out some reliable tech info or tests? Thanks for any help, Sam.

Outside of a Moco manual.....probably only aan HD tech that been through the school for them. I can assume they work like a TPS unit, via ohms depicting movement and how far.

I think H-D had a recall on those things for the 08's as well. A friend of mine has that on his 08 Dresser and had some problems with it. Good luck with yours on the Streetglide. For the life of me I just can't see the advantage over a Mechanical Throttle cable.

Easy to bench test , it's a rheostat so look for resistance to go low to high as you turn it . If it's in limp mode you should have a code . You may have pinched a wire at the switch housing .

the automotive industry has been using electronic throttles for quite some time. They are scary to a point (wire fails or shorts, and you cannot control speed) but they have proven to be reliable. the one that really scares me is some newer high end autos have electronic steering. A series of servos and wires and sensors that depict how much you are turning the steering wheel and relay that info to the servos controlling the movement of the front wheels. one of those wires gets cut, and you are in trouble

Thanks, I got it! One of the connectors, (an easy to reach one) did not quite click. A little wiggle is all it takes. (or so I am told)
