Ooh la la lollipop-- mod

Anyone ever heard of the "lollipop" mod for exhausts?

I'm running the short shot drags and man do they pop and make a scene on decel. I'm wondering if this could help with the back-pressure and maybe even a little in the mid-range.

Thoughts?

Drag-pipe blues

I run a modified version of the "washer trick" in that my "washer" is square. Anyone that has looked down the end of a Thunderheader will know why.

I'd like to hear how this mod works out on EFI bikes. I know it works well with the carbed bikes, but they aren't self tuning with the O2 sensors like the EFI bikes.

Should smooth out your power curve in the midrange anyway, with your drag pipes.

Ya, I will do it by this weekend. Maybe tonight if I can get out of work early enough to get by the hardware store.

I'm not all that concerned about the power as much as clearing up the decel pops, or atleast calming them a bit.

I have seen people using the washers with a hole in the middle and people using "thumb" screws that are solid. What kind of change would that make?

Not much difference.

What you are trying to achieve is slowing down the exhaust velocity so that after the exhaust is expelled out your exhaust pipes, it isn't sucking oxygen back into the exhaust pipe while your exhaust valve still open.... throwing off your A/F ratio..... causing the popping you are experiencing.

Take a look at the cutaway here.

Thunderheader NEW for 2010

The same effect can be created by bending 2 or 3 of the baffle tabs outward.

Ok, I installed these tonight. I used 1/4" eye bolts. Not quite as much surface area as a washer, but it worked. I would say that atleast 90% of the popping I was experiencing left. I also noticed a deeper tone/growl, and maybe even a little extra juice midrange. I spent maybe an hour and a half and about 3 bucks doing this. I'll post up some pics if anyone is interested in seeing.

Thanks, Dave for the tutorial. This was a great mod.. and the best 3 bucks I have spent in a while..

edit: I thought about putting another small bolt and washer through the eye and closing up the hole to get more surface area.. haven't decided yet. I will post the outcome regardless.
