Slip on Mufflers
I'm thinking of buying Rinehart or Screamin Eagle mufflers for my 2010 Heritage just to give it more sound. The dealer said I should also do a Stage 1 kit. Not quite sure what that is yet, but do I really need that?
I thought it would just be a matter of taking the old mufflers off and putting the new ones on. Can anyone tell me what else I need and what is involved? I'm kind of worried about being charged a lot for something I don't need.

Well mvroyal this is quite a topic for discussion and I myself have researched it extensively. Theres so many opinions as to what you should do about just upgrading your exhaust and upgraging your air cleaner that I guess you'll have to come to your own conclusion. I have an 09 Ultra Classic that is stock at the present BUT I have on the way a new set of Vance and Hines Monster Oval slip-ons. I DO NOT want to do an Air Cleaner upgrade nor do I want to do a Tuner upgrade. Vance and Hines says I must use their FuelPak, my dealer says I need the ECM re-mapped UNLESS I use Screamin Eagle mufflers (made by the way by Supertrapp or Vance and Hines) and everything will be ok. I'm posting some very interesting links you can review to help you decide as I did as to what you may want to do. Hope this helps..... I welcome everyones opinions as I'm not a professional........Thanx

You get what you pay for. Reinhart cost more for a reason.

V&H Monster ovals are top of the line pipes from V&H. Not discrediting them at all.....
Touring bike pipes are more costly then any other bike, considering the pipes are longer, as well.... more material.
My V&H pipes don't provide the sound and deep throatiness the Reinharts do, and I've heard Reinharts on a Bagger, (One street glide and another FLHTP, both large bore bikes, with extensive mods) as a friend of mine has two of them, and Reinharts on both.
There is a price difference when compared to V&H. There's also a sound difference. Reinharts are quiet at idle, throaty at midrange and bark loud at full throttle.
It all depends on what you want in the long run.

Actually Dave here in the North Country our professional bike builders prefer ThunderHeader systems.

I totally agree Dave as my wife and I didn't want anything too loud as we use our Stereo and Intercomm. Still want to hear that great "Harley Rumble" though...

That's because ThunderHeaders are a 2-1 system that provides more bottom end torque, which is where we all drive at, and want.
HP's are one thing, but torque is what's felt by most riders and decreasing exhaust velocity and backpressure will take away from that and provide more noise then performance......Dyno sheets prove it.
I'd take ThunderHeaders over most pipes any day. However, most people prefer symetrical pipes, over one sided exhaust, and more Oooopmph!!!!

Thunderheaders have quite the reputation. But recently I heard, from a really reputable shop/business owner, that they had been having problems with the pipes and there is no warranty to cover them. He advised me to stay away from Thunderheader and looks at other 2-1s like Supertrapp, Bassani, etc.
That said, my V&Hs are of great quality. But I do hear A LOT of great things about Rhinehart.
