Talking New 2010 Iron 883 - new black pipes??

What kind of exhaust pipes do I need to get to complete blacked out look? I see the Screaming Eagles Slip-On Shorty Dual Exhausts in the Harley catalog for around $389. I understand I'll need to get a Stage I Air Cleaner Kit also($140). Do these pipes sound good like a Harley's supposed to? And do they give you a boost in HP? Can I buy them myself online and get the Harley dealer to install for me? I'm told you need to get the engine tweaked a bit to gee-haw with the new exhaust system. Newbie questions but I'm not proud.

slip on pipes for 389 is crazy. go to the vance and hines website and look at thier short shots in black. you might like them and i bet there close to the same price. I dont know about the dealer but im sure if you got a service manual and a 3/8 socket set you could handle installing them yourself.

Keeping the Iron 883 Stock

You know the more I think about it, I think I'm gonna keep my Iron 883 stock and not change anything other than my inverted mirrors. It may not be the loudest thing on the road but I kind of like it the way it is. After a while, mine will be unique since everybody else is making theirs 'custom'. IRON RULES!!

New Pipes Quote

I went to a motorcycle shop this afternoon that a guy at work recommended to me. The owner has 12 years working for Harley Davidson, plus a long list of other attaboys. I think he's a good guy. For my Iron 883, he quoted me a price of $1100+ for a set of Vance and Hines Black Short Shot Exhausts($479), a new super-duper air intake, and some kind of thing for the fuel injection. Labor is about $270. I'd like a little louder set of pipes but I don't want to wake the world. I wish I could hear the bike with these pipes before I lay out that much money. What to do....??

Depends what you want to spend. If I were in your shoes. I'd either purchase the SE A/C $140.00 or the SE Heavy Breather in Black for $299. I know where to get them cheaper. Then I would order the super tuner with the pc cable and the training dvd that all will run you between 400 to 500 bucks. Then come back here and we'll teach you how to tune and not have some mr. know it all give you a line of shit and take more money out of your pocket and then you will have more money for life or for your bike. I know better pipes than the short shots in black

LMK what you think. I will keep an eye on this thread.

I'm interested in what you're saying... What kind of pipes do you recommend? I looked up the breather and super tuner you talked about. What about the fuel pak for the fuel injection? About all I do is change the oil and filters in my vehicles. You think I could do this pipe change-out without screwing my bike up?
