ok, i have a 06 electra glide, just took the tank off to be painted. when i pulled the tank i removed the fuel line from inbetween the two cylinders. it was just one bolt that held the fuel line in place. it looks like there is two rubber o rings and a flat washer, so is the order for them to go back in o-ring- washer- o-ring i have tryed it this way many times and it leaks every time..i hope this makes some kind of sence to you guys..thanks steve

Hi Folks:
I'd like to know YOUR opinions regarding buying a Carbed Bike, or a Fuel Injected?
I'm sitting on the "edge of decision", liking both bikes, but...I'm not that informed about injection, nor..."do I mess with anything, until I absolutely know what I'm doing"!
I've always had carbed bikes-but, others say fuel injection is way to go.
Another factor: the one bike I'm interested in, is a Softtail Heritage (2000) w/carb. Reasonable parts prices and availability is a concern down the road; because it looks like an end of an "era is at hand (carbed)".
The other is a RK (2006) w/Fuel Injection.
Thanks for your thoughts folks.

I ride a 2009 Nightrain and just replaced my stock exhaust with V&H Big Radius 2-1, SE Heavybreather and a PC V w/Autotune. After everything was hooked up I tried to start the bike and had no power to the starter. Everything else electrical worked and I could hear the fuel pump energizing, but nothing from the starter. It was completely dead (no clicking or anything) but the battery was fine. The pipes and breather were self explanatory to bolt on; my initial concern with the job (from my lack of EFI experience) was on the electrical side. The PCV itself is extremely easy to install. The Autotuner O2 sensors are a little more difficult only because you have to get creative routing the wires from the pipes to the unit under your seat. Let me say first that I bought my PCV from Fuel Moto and they’ve been great. I called 3-4 times with technical questions and they were always professional and very helpful.

I disconnected/checked/reconnected everything I had done; checked to make sure I hadn’t knocked one of the connections loose on the starter itself; replaced both the starter fuse and the starter relay, and basically cursed and slumped my shoulders in shame for a couple of days.

I did a lot of reading on hdforums and Harley-davidsonforums and found tons of helpful lessons-learned and tips; thank you all. After two days of troubleshooting and swapping out fuses and relays I remembered a non-PCV-related post about someone having to hold in the clutch to start the bike after disconnecting the battery and replacing parts. Well I tried it and for some reason it worked! It only took one attempt with the clutch engaged; subsequent attempts with the new and old relays/fuses were successful without using the clutch (yes I was always in Neutral).

I’ve put about 100 miles on the bike with the new configuration and have had no problems. Fuel-Moto’s map program for my exhaust configuration is working great. I noticed an immediate increase in low-RPM torque and the throttle response is much crisper. Of course, the fuel economy is taking a hit but it really is a noticeable increase in performance over stock. I’m going to try loading a new map from the Autotune this weekend. I’ve got to look over the values, but it looks like it will be slightly leaner in a couple of power bands, not all though.

I hope this helps another amateur mechanic out there. I had a blast doing the work myself. Safe riding…

Hi, My 02 road king is giving me fits. It has started running rough, like out of fuel, then runs smooth, then rough again, spits, idle's up high on its own then down again, etc. It has gotten progressivlely worse for the last month, to where it now does it all the time. I have been searchin for answers, Its a modified 103 engine, been built for 3 years w/o problems. I disconected an bypassed the power comander and it still does same thing. I've listened in the fuel tank for spiting sounds but fuel builds an holds pressure, also filling tank does not stop problem, plugs are sparking nice. Has a lot of black on plugs etc from running rich only. Ive checked over all my wiring and have not found anything wrong. Now thinking off inspecting all the sensors attached to the fuel injection? Looking for answers if anyone has an ideas I should check sure appreciate it.

2004 heritage, stock motor, stage 2 kit ,vance and hines long shots. Have had an intermittent problem for a while seems to be getting worse. When I turn the bike on fuel pump light comes on then goes out as supposed to, then might come back on again then go out again. Starts fine. Lately light started coming on while riding, would go out after short time.I had a power commander on the bike but took this off thinking it could be the problem. Now bike will die while riding, or sometimes won't take any throttle(fall on its face if I am riding say 55 and try to give it throttle. Has also over rev'd a couple times while sitting at a light. when it has died pump light was not on sometimes and was on sometimes. Is hard to start when this happens, smells like too much fuel. but after sitting for 2 - 5 minutes will start. Did it today and after I got it started rode another 50 miles no problem. Couple of weeks ago rode 700 miles in 3 days not a burp one.:loco:loco Any help would be useful Thanks

I have a 1992 sportster that had a rusty fuel tank. I noticed it after the bike kept cutting off after startup. Then cranked and run a few seconds only with full choke.

I have cleaned and treated the tank with the "KREAM" 3 step kit. It turned out very nicely.

As far as the carb goes, I have not completely removed it. removed the bowel, long jet, and short jet beside it. I cleaned and soaked them all in carb cleaner. Next, I sprayed cleaner all up around the float and carb then reassembled.

I tried to crank the bike but it did not fire. I removed the bowl from the bottom of the carb again and noticed it was bone DRY. No fuel is reaching the bowl.

I have checked and removed the line from the tank into the carb inlet If I open to reserve or on, fuel comes out. I put the line back on the carb but left the bowl off and tried to crank it to see if anything come out. (I didnt know if it needed suction to pull the fuel down or not). Still nothing.

The inlet to the carb seems to be closed or stopped up.

Should the fuel automaticly fill the bowl when I turn the gas on at the tank. Or does it pull the fuel down when the engine creates compression.

Help!!

i just installed a set of used true duals on my 95 Classic , and while i had the front header off i noticed the exhaust valve was snow white, i dismissed this as being when i first got the bike the previous owner let it sit so long that the mufflers rotted out the insides and when he tried to run the bike the pipe would glow bright red instantly. i swapped mufflers when i bought the bike and never had a glow issue. Well after a couple of weeks with the new Rienhart headers she started to run alittle off, so i pulled the plugs and they are that same snow white. I was told that i would most likely have to rejet after the pipe change, my question is where do i start, besides removing the carburator. ?
