Angry damaged frame on road king classic

i hit a rock the other day. the rock came up and sent the cross member under the pan into the pan. lost oil etc. shop says the frame is damaged and bike will be totalled by insurance. question: can frame be saved? this is a hd rk classic with only 3,000 miles. i can buy the bike back but would i be able to somehow repair frame. i know that when the cross member bent it brought the tubes into each other but can that be repaired? bumed out!

Insurance companies will total a bike with a damaged frame, no matter how minor. It's a liability thing. In some cases they might actually replace the entire frame, or frame sub assembly. The labor to replace the frame on Road King might be cost prohibitive.

I listened to a motorcycle cop talking about getting run down by a car and having to have the frame replaced.

Frame repair

Almost all frames can be repaired. Buy the thing back from the insurance company, strip it down, and fix the frame. It will be a good teacher so you will know what you have. I'v done this many time over the last forty years with no problem. You have to have the repaired bike go thru your state inspection and they will issue a title for a salvaged bike. No problem until you want to sell it. Most people are afraid of the term.
