Smile Twin Cam Heads

To make a long story short, I traded my 1996 FLHT for a 2005 FLHTCUI, after having it for the weekend, i noticed a small oil leak in the pushrod oring on the front exhaust, so I called the dealer and they said bring it in they would fix it, while on my way there I felt the bike lurching a little and would sometimes stall, so when I tell them about that they tell me it needs dyno-tuned, come to find out they put 5000.00 into the motor, a complete rebuild was done with all performance upgrades, all new bearings, lifters, pushrods, flywheels, 1550 cylinders with pistons, bigger intake, and Vance and Hines CNC ported heads with oversized valves I never knew Vance and Hines did heads, wondering if anyone has any experience with these and an opinion. Thanks for the info.

I think he means this is the first they told him the bike had been upgraded.

No dealership is going to surprise you with a $5000 upgrade on your bike w/o authorization.

Dale, I think I'd be glad I got all that stuff, the list might need a comma

between the Vance and Hines, and CNC ported heads. My LowRider is a 2005

and I have the 95" upgrade, that part I'd have no reservations about, and even

the compression bump from 8.9 to 9.5 I would think was pretty mild, I'd be glad it wasn't to something like 10.5

EDIT: I just went back and noticed "flywheels" and that almost certainty means they increased the stroke,

so it seems likely that you have a 103" motor. Holy Smoke, did they not tell you what it's displacement is now?

If something isn't messed up, that can't be fixed, I think I'd be tickled to death.

It should pull like a freight train, if it doesn't have bugs that need ironing out.

This was all work done before I bought the bike. The Harley dealer elected to do everything, the salesman did not tell me all the motor work was done, I thought I just had a simple o-ring that needed replaced, when I was buying the bike I know the salesman and we got side tracked and he thought he told me, by the way, the bike runs awesome, I am not looking for any performance or motor building advice, I just wondered if anyone had any experience with vance and hines heads, I just had it dyno tuned today and I cannot believe how awesome the bike runs. Also I just really was wondering about the heads nothing else, I really do not care what other people think about my setup, it works for me. But thanks anyways

Do those heads have any distinguishing marks on them?

I'm not aware of any production heads that Vance and Hines makes.

No, I did not even know they did heads, if you Google "Vance and Hines CNC ported heads" it will bring up the link. I'll tell you what, I have had alot of bikes with stroker motors, but by far, this bike runs excellent, just as good as a stroker motor in my opinion. Oh yeah, by the way, you can even send them your heads.

Cool.

I'd expect your bike should run just as good as a stroker.... because I imagine you do have a stroker motor when you mentioned they changed out the flywheels.

I'm guessing its a 103" with those 3 7/8" cylinders (1550).

Not a stroker motor, it is only a 95" motor, but I tell you what, this is the first for cnc ported heads with oversize valves, and I am a believer. A new set of stock flywheels were installed, why they did not stroke it I do not know.

Yup, cams and headwork is definitely the best bang for the buck after the stage one stuff.

Sounds like you got a winner.
